Product strategy

The product roadmap is not a list of features

A useful roadmap connects evidence, strategic choices and a sequence of customer value — not a backlog with dates.

Most roadmaps become crowded because they try to represent every possibility. The work is to make a visible choice about what changes the product outcome next.

Start with the decision

A strong roadmap states the customer or business change it intends to create, then makes the smallest credible path toward that change explicit.

  • Name the evidence behind the priority
  • Describe the expected behavior change
  • Keep the measure of success close to the work

Roadmaps are a communication tool before they are a planning tool.
